Film follows father-son motorcycle trip

TRAVERSE CITY — A father-son journey is featured in a new documentary.

Jay and Dale Taylor left for Brazil in May 2014, traveling the 8,000 miles mostly by motorcycle. The Taylors will screen the film that chronicles their journey — “8,000 Miles with Dad” — June 23 at the InsideOut Gallery.

Jay, 32, lived with his father in Mexico for 20 years. He went to high school and college in the U.S. and now lives in Traverse City. A motorcycle was the first vehicle he learned to drive, and he has owned one since age 11.

“We’ve always had motorcycles,” he said. “It’s the easiest and cheapest way to get around Mexico.”

Dale, a Spanish court interpreter in Nebraska, served as a missionary for a small Brazilian tribe. He later created a nondenominational church, which is now led by a local pastor.

Jay remembers watching a film called “The Motorcycle Diaries,” which fueled his dream to ride to South America by bike.
