This was the final 250 SX East race until the series returns in New Jersey on April 25, so riders were keen to head to the break on a high point. Martin was especially determined off the start, bombing to the front out of the gate. The problem for Martin was that Musquin also got a good start and trailed close behind in second-position. The KTM ace made the pass on Martin in the opening turns, but Martin was determined and fought back later in the lap. Just before the end of the first rotation, Musquin reclaimed the lead and from then on the battle for the front was over.
Musquin stretched a multi-second lead over the subsequent laps, and while Martin pushed to catch the KTM, he was unable to close the distance. Musquin’s title rival this year, GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle, got bunched up off the start and paced back in 12th during the initial stages.
